Bolts are one of the most commonly used fasteners in construction and machine design. You can find them in everything from electric toothbrushes and door hinges to concrete pillars in buildings.
Bolts come in a wide array of shapes and sizes, but the production process remains the same. It begins with cold forging steelwire into precise shape, and is then followed by a heat treatment to improve strength and durability.
In 1568, the first machine to manufacture bolts and screws was created in France by Besson. Hindley of York later improved upon the machine and the fastener manufacturing boom began.
